Course Overview
This course covers the broad topics of epidemiology, diseases control strategies, advocacy, human resource development, and program management for eye care in highly practical and interactive sub-modules over two weeks. All the modules are based on developing an eye care program for roughly a one million population (0.5 million – 2 million) “service unit” (district, region, province) specific to the participant’s own country. The participants will develop strategies for human resource development, infrastructure development, and disease control. These strategies will be integrated into an eye care program for the specified service unit.
Who can participate?
The course is intended for people planning to work in delivering eye care service all around the world. These may include future ophthalmologists, ophthalmic nurses, optometrists, ophthalmic medical assistants, national eye care coordinators, and district eye care program managers. This course is in English, and would therefore be most suitable for people who can speak in good English.
What will you learn?
Participants will learn how to plan and manage a district eye care program. The course does not aim to provide a clinical training in ophthalmology.
What is the duration of the course?
The course duration is 2 weeks (10 working days).
Who offers the course?
The course is run by the National Training Base for the Prevention and Treatment of Blindness of P.R.China. The course is taught by a faculty combined with local Chinese and international experts.
How much will the course cost?
The tuition fee of this course is $600, including registration fee, teaching materials, teaching relevant transportation during the course. The estimate living costs in Shenyang city should be no more than $50 per day, including $10-20 for meals and $20-40 for accommodation. A twin hotel room with breakfast for two starts from $40/night, $20 per person. An apartment with two bedrooms and a kitchen usually costs the same.
